A stunning and beautifully modelled, patinated bronze and Carrara marble bust of a lady, probably a member of the Ducal family of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, mounted on a variegated marble base. In the 1930s, Poertzel worked closely with Ferdinand Preiss and many of their works are indistinguishable, save by the signature.
Date: circa 1925
Height: 26 cm (10.2 inches) including base
Signed: Inscribed “Prof Poertzel" in the maquette and "RuM" for Rosenthal und Maeder, Berlin
Condition: Outstanding original condition.
